Truth

There was truth and there was untruth, and if you clung to the truth even against the whole world, you were not mad.

Jobs & Debt Anyone?

Our Biden Momemt of the Week: “If I hear one more Republican tell me about balancing the budget, I am going to strangle them.”
He quickly added: “To the press, that’s a figure of speech.”
Yeah, that’s an evil thought isn’t it Joe.  Perish the Thought… :)
************************************
Another great Moment: The debate between Richard “I lied about being in Vietnam” Blumenthal(D) and Linda McMahon.
When asked about how you create a job, he rambled on for over a minute and end up with praising government.
She did it in 19 seconds. :)
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4359817/how-do-you-create-a-job/
By the way, it is expected by many economist that when the Unemployment figures come out on Friday that the rate will GO UP!
3 Trillion Dollars of Debt and nothing but Keynesian socialism to show for it! :)
Don’t worry, be Happy.
Hope and Change is still alive!. It’s a zombie corpse coming relentlessly to eat your brains, but it’s still alive!
Yes He can!!!
The Democrats have no idea how to create a job without a massive government bureaucracy run by them, which is probably why they ignore it so much.
WASHINGTON — Recovery.gov promised transparency on how the government spends every dollar of stimulus money, but there’s $162 million the website doesn’t disclose.
Recipients of 352 federal stimulus contracts, grants and loans have failed to report how they spent the money, the status of their projects or how many jobs were funded, according to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
Despite orders from the White House to crack down, enforcement is spotty.
Gee, now that’s not transparent. :)

From a Russian Webpage on “Global Warming”
Forecasters say this winter could be the coldest Europe has seen in the last 1,000 years.
The change is reportedly connected with the speed of the Gulf Stream, which has shrunk in half in just the last couple of years. Polish scientists say that it means the stream will not be able to compensate for the cold from the Arctic winds. According to them, when the stream is completely stopped, a new Ice Age will begin in Europe. (prime time russia)

I guess the Global Warming alarmist were too busy blowing up people they disagreed with in commercials to notice. :)
Then there’s Obama’s Global Warming Cops, The EPA.
Tough new rules proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) restricting greenhouse gas emissions will “slow construction nationwide for years” – but will only reduce global temperatures 0.0015 (15 ten-thousandths) of a degree Celsius in the next century.
“(D)uring this time, tens of thousands of sources each year would be prevented from constructing or modifying,” the EPA staff wrote. “In fact, it is reasonable to assume that many of those sources will be forced to abandon altogether plans to construct or modify. As a result, a literal application (of the permit requirement) to GHG (greenhouse gas) sources would slow construction nationwide for years, with all of the adverse effects that this would have on economic development.”
But the benefit of regulating mobile sources (aka Cars) is, also by the EPA’s own estimations, as little as less than two thousandths of a degree in temperature reduction over a century.
Meanwhile, Mother nature is doing it anyways. Gee, I wonder “Global Warming” (climate Change, et al) is a liberal socialist control scam? :)
And way to create some jobs there, guys! :)
If it walks like a liberal socialist duck, smells like a liberal socialist duck,it’s a liberal socialist duck.
Rep. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.) said, “In many instances, the EPA is overreaching its authority. Instead of operating within the law, EPA believes it can dictate to Congress that legislation needs to be passed for more government authority. And if Congress doesn’t act, it threatens to regulate anyway.”
“Every day, the EPA seems to demonstrate how vastly disconnected it is to the folks who feed us.”
Gee, where have we heard this about being “disconnected” before? :)
President Obama made a big show this week of installing solar panels at the White House, calling it a “commitment to lead.” It’s not. It’s feel-good political symbolism masquerading as a real energy policy.
One could almost feel the prickly sweater of Jimmy Carter descending over the White House as news of solar panels gracing the roof of the residence, as they once did in 1976, was announced Tuesday.
Back then, Carter made symbolic gestures like installing panels and wearing sweaters to set a personal example for conserving energy, while ignoring the shortages, gas lines, rationing and inflation that came with high energy prices.
Inexplicably, the current president is copying him.
According to the White House blog, the new panels are “a project that demonstrates American solar technologies are available, reliable, and ready for installation in homes throughout the country,” a claim which presumes that the only reason Americans aren’t buying them is their own stubbornness.
But in reality, the panels remain costly, and experts estimate the White House installation to cost $100,000. A price tag like that means such panels will remain a rich man’s plaything, no matter how much they demonstrate a commitment to green energy.
In the White House case, the panels also represent politics. Democrats have been desperate to enact a green agenda as midterm elections approach, having failed repeatedly as their proposals collided against economic reality. So instead of grinding the economy to a halt with an economy-killing cap-and-trade law, for now the White House will have to do with its symbolic solar panels.
As harmless as this symbolism may seem to some, it amounts to a substitute for a real energy policy.
As the president installs his solar panels at taxpayer expense, he isn’t doing what he could be doing: making a practical case for energy security, something that could come from development of domestic shale, offshore oil, natural gas, coal and other resources that the environmental lobby has put off-limits over the years.
The symbolic act also amounts to a planted flag for the radical green agenda instead of an energy agenda that serves the people.
To the White House, money is limitless and green technology every inch the equal to more efficient oil. In the real world, the viability of energy is determined by its cost and availability.
People won’t install solar panels just because the White House has them. They will do so if panels make the best business sense.
Unfortunately, this White House doesn’t require that.(IBD)
Because no one in this White House has any actual business experience. They are talking out of their Liberal Elitist Academic asses.
And we are the ones getting the fecal results.

The Ruling Class Propaganda Machine

Michael Ramirez Cartoon
Did you hear the one about the 55 jobs that were saved or created by using $111,000,000?
No? Just ask Los Angeles.
More than a year after Congress approved $800 billion in stimulus funds, the Los Angeles city controller has released a 40-page report on how the city spent its share, and the results are not living up to expectations.
“I’m disappointed that we’ve only created or retained 55 jobs after receiving $111 million,” said Wendy Greuel, the city’s controller. “With our local unemployment rate over 12 percent we need to do a better job cutting red tape and putting Angelenos back to work.”
According to the audit, the Los Angeles Department of Public Works spent $70 million in stimulus funds — in return, it created seven private sector jobs and saved seven workers from layoffs. Taxpayer cost per job: $1.5 million.
The Los Angeles Department of Transportation created even fewer jobs per dollar, spending $40 million but netting just nine jobs. Taxpayer cost per job: $4.4 million.
Greuel blamed the dismal numbers on several factors:
1. Bureaucratic red tape: Four highway projects did not even go out to bid until seven months after they were authorized.
2. Projects that were supposed to be competitively bid in the private sector went instead went to city workers.
3. Stimulus money was not properly tracked within departments
4. Both departments could not report the jobs created and retained in a timely fashion..
And this bureaucrat went on to give themself a B- grade for their performance!!
And these are the bureaucrat types who are going to be in charge of your Health Care and whether you live or die?
God Help us All!!
But the Stimulus is a compete and glorious success. Just ask the Mainstream Media and Press…
And Now the Ministry Of Truth Cheerleading of The Week Story:
Diane Sawyer (Anchor, ABC News Tonight) announced the “President’s stimulus program” of $818 billion was “designated to create or save millions of jobs” and though “Republicans say it’s been largely unsuccessful,” the “White House is firing back, and our Jon Karl has a look at the top of the list, the ones that have worked the best.”  Previewing a report to be released Friday by the Vice President’s office, “100 Recovery Act Projects that Are Changing America” (AP dispatch), Karl trumpeted how “the White House will detail the top 100 stimulus programs in the country. We have an exclusive list at what they considered the greatest hits of the stimulus program.”
Karl began with a project in New Jersey “where a toxic area contaminated by an old electronics plant is being transformed into a new industrial park, thanks to $30 million stimulus dollars” and, he raved, “the project has already created 68 jobs.”
Showing the effort to which ABC went to produce the advertisement for President Obama, the Washington DC-based Karl showed himself at the site of his second example in New York City, to which he credited 120 jobs: “The White House is also touting the $175 million in stimulus funds being spent here at New York’s Staten Island ferry terminal, replacing nine bridges like this one that are in a dangerous state of disrepair.”
Next, after noting Senator John McCain’s claim the spending has been a waste, Karl cited “230 jobs created” by “$51 million for a new facility for injured veterans at Fort Bliss, Texas” and, finally, without any job creation claim, “$25 million in tax credits for GE to build a new plant for energy efficient appliances in Louisville, Kentucky.” That would be a little corporate welfare for MSNBC’s owner.
Karl concluded that adding up all the jobs in the 100 projects in the White House list, though he did not cite a total claimed number, “comes to $250,000 per job, but the White House says the actual cost per job is much lower, because each of these projects will have ripple effects, creating many more jobs in the future.”
Sawyer then reiterated the White House line: “So they say these are facts, too, and these are the facts that show it’s been working.”
And these are the facts that show there is no Journalism anymore in the Mainstream media, just Propaganda for Big Brother.
“I’m sad to report today a death of a good friend to all of us…..Journalism, the once esteemed 4th estate of our nation and the protector of our freedoms and a watchdog of our rights has passed away after a long struggle with a crippling and debilitating disease of acute dishonesty aggravated by advanced laziness and the loss of brain function.”–Former Gov. Mick Hucakbee (2009).
Just the Facts, Ma’am! :)
*****************
Our New Orwellian Phrase of the Week:
From the administration that brought you “man-caused disaster” (terrorist attack) and “overseas contingency operation,” (war) another terminology change is in the pipeline.
The White House wants the public to start using the term “global climate disruption” in place of “global warming” — fearing the latter term oversimplifies the problem and makes it sound less dangerous than it really is. (FOX)
So from Global Cooling…”inadvertent climate modification.”….to Global Warming…To Global Climate Change… to Climate Change…to Global Climate Disruption?….. :)
And when that fails to dull the minds of everyone to their fake threat then what?
But Republicans predicted that re-branding the issue would have limited effect on the legislative effort. GOP strategist Pete Snyder said he doubts the term is going to change hearts and minds. “Are they going to change the name of weathermen to disruption analysts?”
Especially, after Climate Gate it was very apparent that science was taking a back seat to Progressive Liberal Politics.
*****************
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) turned an already fractious midterm election cycle on its ear, defying her own party to launch a write-in campaign for her Senate seat after losing to Tea Party Republican Joe Miller in the primary. I guess her Ego just couldn’t handle losing to an insignificant little dweeb in the Tea Party.
This is what’s wrong with the ruling political classes on BOTH sides. They are too comfortable with their Marie Antionette “Let Them Eat Cake” attitude that they are so much better than the little people.
Yes, even Republicans.
Remember, I am a registered Independent. I am also a Conservative, first.
“We cannot accept the extremist views of Joe Miller,” she said, admitting that she did not “swing back” when under attack in the primary, but promising to do so with relish now.
“The gloves are off,” she said.
Her Ego must have really been bruised. Now she sounds like MSDNC, or the NAACP or Huffington Post.
The ruling class has been hurt by the little people.
“The Peasants are revolting, sire”
“Yeah, I know, they stink on ice” (Mel Brooks History of the World Part 1) :)
Then there’s Chrisitine O’Donnell, the “kooky” candidate Tea party nominee in Delaware that upset the apple cart by taking out a RINO (Republican in  Name Only) who was well loved by the ruling class because he had an (R) next to his name but was in fact a Liberal. But he was one of “them”.
Karl Rove attacks her savagely, sounding like Chris Matthews  or Rachael “Madcow” Maddow on MSDNC.
Charles Krauthammer, who anyone who reads this blog will know I have great respect for, attacks her.
Why?
Because it’s a numbers game to them. Winning at any cost is just politics.
And that’s all that matters. The Power. Not the principles.
But if we happen to get conservatives in at the same time, that’s a bonus. Not the actual benefit.
And isn’t that ass backwards??
“The verdict is in,” O’Donnell proclaimed. “The small elite don’t get us. They call us wacky. They call us wing nuts. We call us ‘we the people.’” What is happening in America today, she said “is a love affair with liberty.”
“The constitution is making a comeback,” O’Donnell said. “Americans want our leaders to defend our values, our culture, our legacy of liberty and our way of life — not apologize … They have rejected the narrative that has been imposed on them by the D.C. cocktail crowd.”
Many voted for “Hope and Change” and what they got was a Hope of what the Progressive Liberal Democrats wanted to Change this country into.
“Yes We Can” meant the Democrats changing America into Europe.
And the ruling classes of politicians are ok with it, as long as they are the ones in power.
“I don’t want the majority back if we don’t believe anything,” Sen. DeMint said on Fox News. “So I think if we want the numbers, if we want the majority, then we’re going to have to stand on some principles that the American people believe in.”
And neither do I, because then you’re just trading one slave master for another.
The political animal has not changed his spots.
So we have to change them for him or her.
Simple.

The Rise of The Eco-Migrant

The nuts on The Left are really getting desperate.
Global Warming crashed and burned with Climate gate where the corruption on the issue was exposed.
But the Left, losing on the immigration issue has come up with a new one.
If you don’t love illegal immigrants now, you’ll have even more because of GLOBAL WARMING!
So if we embrace global warming and illegal immigration we will be just fine. :)

Brought to you by National Geographic:

Disputes over illegal Mexican immigrants are already heating up in the United States, thanks in part to a new Arizona immigration law.
But global warming could bring the immigration issue to a boiling point in the coming decades, if a new study holds true.
According a new computer model, a total of nearly seven million additional Mexicans could emigrate to the U.S. by 2080 as a result of reduced crop yields brought about by a hotter, drier climate—assuming other factors influencing immigration remain unchanged.
“The model shows that climate-driven refugees could be a big deal in the future,” said study co-author Michael Oppenheimer, an atmospheric scientist at Princeton University in New Jersey.

Study co-author Oppenheimer acknowledged there are many uncertainties in his team’s model. But it’s important for scientists to investigate climate change-induced migration quantitatively, he said.
“This is the first time anybody’s built a model to do this,” Oppenheimer said. “It’s a simplification, and there are a lot of assumptions, but it’s the start of a learning process. As we learn more, the model will improve, and the numbers will get more reliable.”

You know what they say about assumptions. :)
And we’re just shooting in the dark and it’s complete speculation and it’s over simplified.
BUT YOU MUST TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!

“The takeaway message for me of this study is that there is indeed a relationship between changes in crop yield and the movement of people,” Smit said. “And to the extent that future climate change will introduce more of those stresses on yields, we can expect more pressures on the movement of people.”

It’s the birth of the ECO-Migrant!!
No Illegal Immigrants. No more Undocumented Immigrants. No more just plain Immigrants. They are now ECO-Migrants!!
Oh Dear!
Now if we deny them we are harming them AND the environment at the same time!!
OH NO!!!
Where’s my barf bag?….

In some sense, it may not matter whether the study is right or wrong.
The University of Ottawa’s McLeman, for example, argues that many of the things the U.S. could do to help Mexico adapt to global warming will also help improve the quality of life for many of Mexico’s poor.
“A lot of the things that we could be doing are things that we should be doing anyway,” he said.
“Even if it turns out that our future projections about climate change impacts aren’t right, it’s still a good investment. I don’t see any downside to it.”

Come down here and say that ya Canuck!

So it doesn’t matter if we are right or wrong, we should just do it anyways!
But if we can scare people into doing it, so much the better! It’s the right thing to do.

Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission said Monday it is sending inspectors to U.S. border crossings to monitor deportations that might result if Arizona’s new immigration law goes into effect as planned Thursday.
The law is being challenged by the U.S. government in court, but the federal judge hearing the case hasn’t indicated whether she might agree to the challenge’s request that the measure be put on hold.
The government’s rights commission said monitors will be stationed at border gates in Tijuana across from California, Nogales next to Arizona and Ciudad Juarez and Reynosa across from Texas to ensure migrants are treated properly.
The implementation of the Arizona Law SB1070 represents a threat to migrants’ full exercise of their human rights,” the commission said in a statement. “The law violates the principles of nondiscrimination, equality before the law and freedom from arbitrary arrest.”

Go back to my blogs on Mexican Immigration law and lets compare apples to tomatillos. :)
http://indyfromaz.wordpress.com/2010/04/29/what-would-mexico-do/

And the bad economy and the anti-business attitudes are not to blame for stores closing in Phoenix, it’s SB1070!!
At least according to the open borders LA Times and their latest sob story of evil racist Arizona.
Every time a customer buys some of the large fabric tote bags from the Dollar Store at 43rd Avenue and Thomas Road, Najmuddin Katchi sees another piece of his business vanish.
The purchase of the briefcase-sized shoulder bags means that another one of Katchi’s customers, mostly Latino immigrants, is packing to leave the state before what is touted as the nation’s toughest law against illegal immigrants takes effect July 29.

Katchi’s store isn’t the only business suffering. The vast shopping center that holds his small shop is almost empty. The Food City supermarket closed this spring. Then the furniture shop. Then the pizzeria.
It’s not the economy, it’s racism! It’s Global Warming!
It’s F*cking Maryvale! a part of Phoenix known for crime and poverty and the like.
A shift in police philosophy included embedding Phoenix Gang Unit officers in the precinct, placing more sophisticated resources regularly in what one crime analysis described as “an area saturated with gang members.(Wikipedia)
Guess what kind of Gangs….Come one, guess… :)
The giant apartment complex across the street, once brimming with tenants, is two-thirds vacant. Katchi is behind on his rent.
And it’s all them damn racists fault!
It couldn’t be because Maryvale is a crappy neighborhood now could it?
Nothing to do with 10% unemployment, debt, deficits, and bad economic policies. Nope, not that!
It’s Racism!
It’s Global Warming!
“The business is broken,” said Katchi, who has operated his shop at this intersection for 14 years. “After the 29th of July, what happens? Maybe I have to close the store.”
One Note: I am sorry to see a person lose their business but in this town that has been going on on a large scale for 3 years now. A Food City (a lower-end supermarket) near to me closed. Was that because of racism?
No that was a year ago. And it was because the city condemned all the houses in the immediate area and that killed the business. And the Checker Auto Parts and several others.
So the argument is specious, but it’s typical of a liberal media biased story that is more about emotion than logic and facts.
Where I live the housing boom was at it’s peak and you can see where it came to screeching halt.
Was that SB1070? Or the economy.

For the last 20 years, Arizona has been one of the fastest-growing states in the nation. It depends on an expanding population to power its economy, which relies heavily on the construction of new houses.
And guess what the “anyone with a pulse can buy a house” Liberals did to it?
And still do to it because Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and their “toxic” assets and policies were completely ignored by the recent financial reform which is supposed to prevent this from happening again. So by ignoring the real problem, it won’t happen again. :)
At the corner of 43rd and Thomas, it’s hard to determine how much of the neighborhood’s woes stem from Arizona’s immigration laws and how much from the state’s economy, battered by a once red-hot housing market that cooled.
But the whole point of writing this is to say the point is evil racists and SB1070, so don’t wimp out now.
Katchi’s revenue was already sagging before April 23, when Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB 1070 into law. Since then, sales have plummeted.
And of course this is logical correlation. NOT!
In adopting the legislation the state embarked on a grand experiment — trying to drive out hundreds of thousands of its residents by what the law calls “attrition through enforcement.”
Yeah, that was written into the law…right…
“The economy’s already bad, but on top of it [SB 1070] is like a bullet in the head to us,” said Osameh Odeh, 35, whose Eden Wear clothing store was empty one recent afternoon. “People don’t come out of their houses anymore.”
We’re going to get you my pretty and you’re little dog too! :)   <>
But hey, if they want to go somewhere else and be some else’s problem, I say don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. How about LA,SF, Denver or New Mexico they love you there.

The law requires police to check the immigration status of people they lawfully stop and also suspect are in the country illegally. Civil rights groups and the Obama administration have sued to stop the law from taking effect, and a federal judge heard arguments in the case Thursday.
The departure of illegal immigrants, proponents of SB 1070 argue, can only help Arizona’s economy.
Works for me.
But we still have to secure the border first.
And just to round out the sob stories they throw in racial profiling and the tag at the end of the article:
“They don’t want Mexicans,” she said. “So we’ll leave.” (a legal Mexican-American shop owner).
No Journo-List bias here.
Twelve percent of second-generation Latino voters in the state say they support S.B. 1070, according to a recent Latino Decisions poll. That jumps to nearly 30 percent in the fourth generation.
Jesse Hernandez, a second-generation Mexican-American, a product of public housing and a proud Phoenix Republican, is one of those in Arizona who favor the law.
Hernandez says he knows many Latinos who feel just like he does.
“I just don’t like the fact that they’re going to say that an American Latino has the same concerns as a Latino from Mexico. No, we don’t,” Hernandez says.
Hernandez says his Mexican-born parents came to the U.S. after years of waiting at the border to secure papers. He says illegal immigrants need to get in line, just like they did.
“We don’t have time to be marching down the street waving the Mexican flag saying we want rights,” he says. “Because you know what? We did it the right way, and we have rights.”
“It’s like an African-American person forgot that two or three generations ago they were unable to vote, and they are direct descendants of slaves.”– one SB1070 opponent said.
The key here being generations ago.  NOT NOW.
I love how Liberal want to abuse the past to further their own politics–at least when it’s in their own interest that is and they can play the guilt card– but we won’t talk about how the Democrats  (especially Southern Democrats) were the one holding up the Civil Rights legislation in the 1960′s. Nope won’t go there. :)
So what we have is more emotion over logic and more hyperbole over facts.
But now have a new breed of excuses for illegal immigration, Environment- both economic and Global.
Rejoice, now not only are you a racist, but a heartless  and ignorant environmental destructor who wants to see the economy get even worse if we do something about ILLEGAL ENTRY into this country.
Isn’t that good to know. :)

Freedom of Liberal Speech

1st Amendment
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
The Liberal Progressive Rewrite (my version):
Congress shall make no law respecting any religion, and will do it’s best to prohibit the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of Liberal speech, or of the Liberal press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble (except for those who disagree with Liberals, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances, but they will be ignored if they are not “deemed” worthy by Liberals.
An effort by Democrats to close down speech critical of their actions before it can impact the November elections is running into a rocky road in the U.S. House, where House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delayed action on the proposal while the party regroups and tries to assemble support.
The DISCLOSE Act, pending as HR 5175 in the U.S House and as S. 3295 in the Senate, targets the freedom of speech of companies and groups acknowledged by the U.S. Supreme Court in its “Citizens United” ruling last winter.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Chris Van Hollen in the House and Sen. Charles Schumer in the Senate, has 114 co-sponsors with Van Hollden and 49 with Schumer.
Pelosi, however, pulled the proposal from a floor vote and sent members home for the weekend because of turbulence over the plan to impose a new set of reporting and other requirements on a long list of organizations, according to a report in Human Events.
According to the Connie’s Congress column, “Democrats have been scrambling to shut down conservative political speech before the November elections this year since the January U.S. Supreme Court decision in ‘Citizens United v. FEC’ that found freedom of speech applies to everyone: individuals, corporations and unions.
“Discontented with a more level playing field, Democrats threw together the DISCLOSE Act, a very lengthy and complicated piece of legislation designed solely to undo the court’s decision.”
While moving forward, it still needed additional support, and in recent days a “carve-out” was created that would have exempted the National Rifle Association from its demands, allegedly in exchange for the NRA dropping its opposition.
But analysts say the move backfired, since the Internet ignited with criticism of the organization’s “deal with the devil” and other less-complimentary descriptions.
Ed Morrissey at Hot Air.com said, “Congress’ attempt to repair their attack on the First Amendment, overturned in the ‘Citizens United’ decision earlier this year, has run off the rails thanks to the machination of its Democratic backers.
“Nancy Pelosi pulled the DISCLOSE Act from the House floor last night after the news of sleazy deals to exempt powerful organizations from the law started leaking to the media. Ironically, it was a rare partnership between the NRA and the Democrats that sealed the bill’s fate.”(WND)
And this Congress is not known for backroom slezy deals, after all, as Pelosi herself said in 2007, it was “going to be the most ethical Congress” in history. And she wouldn’t lie, now would see… :)
Cleta Mitchell, a member of the board of directors for NRA, which would have fallen into the bill’s exempting language, wrote in a newspaper column the true purpose of the DISCLOSE Act is to “silence congressional critics in the 2010 elections.”
“Since the court’s January decision in ‘Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission’ that corporations cannot be constitutionally prohibited from making independent candidate-related expenditures, Democrats have been hyperventilating at the notion that corporations might spend millions of dollars criticizing them,” she wrote. “To foreclose that possibility, the DISCLOSE Act would impose onerous and complicated ‘disclosure’ restrictions on organizations that dare to engage in constitutionally protected political speech and on corporations that dare to contribute to such organizations.
“The DISCLOSE Act isn’t really intended to elicit information not currently required by law. The act serves notice on certain speakers that their involvement in the political process will exact a high price of regulation, penalty and notoriety, using disclosure and reporting as a subterfuge to chill their political speech and association,” she wrote.
“It is only disclosure, say the authors. And box-cutters are only handy household tools . . . until they are used by terrorists to crash airplanes,” she wrote.
The dirty little secret that the Democrats don’t want discussed is that Unions were the #1 user and abuser of campaign ads until this ruling, they had a virtual monopoly because of the money they could raise from their members.
And as if that weren’t enough…
WASHINGTON — Fighting homegrown terrorism by monitoring Internet communications is a civil liberties trade-off the U.S. government must make to beef up national security, the nation’s homeland security chief said Friday.
As terrorists increasingly recruit U.S. citizens, the government needs to constantly balance Americans’ civil rights and privacy with the need to keep people safe, said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
But finding that balance has become more complex as homegrown terrorists have used the Internet to reach out to extremists abroad for inspiration and training. Those contacts have spurred a recent rash of U.S.-based terror plots and incidents.
“The First Amendment protects radical opinions, but we need the legal tools to do things like monitor the recruitment of terrorists via the Internet,” Napolitano told a gathering of the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy.
Napolitano’s comments suggest an effort by the Obama administration to reach out to its more liberal, Democratic constituencies to assuage fears that terrorist worries will lead to the erosion of civil rights.
Mind you, last year, this is the same person who called “right wingers” and returning military personnel “terrorists” and this are the same people who have called the Tea Party movement “terrorists” on occasion.
And with “net neutrality” still out there (aka censorship) you can always trust Big Sis to do what’s best for you. :)
Napolitano said it is wrong to believe that if security is embraced, liberty is sacrificed.
Too Bad she doesn’t believe that about the Border!! :)
She added, “We can significantly advance security without having a deleterious impact on individual rights in most instances. At the same time, there are situations where trade-offs are inevitable.”
You trade your freedom for our Security. What could be wrong with that. :)
The Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act would allow the President to disconnect Internet networks and force private websites to comply with broad cybersecurity measures.
Future US presidents would have their Internet “kill switch” powers renewed indefinitely.
The bill would give a newly-formed National Center for Cybersecurity and Communications the authority to monitor the “security status” of private websites, ISPs and other net-related business within the U.S. as well as critical internet components in other countries. Companies would be required to take part in “information sharing” with the government and certify to the NCCC that they have implemented approved security measures. Furthermore, any company that “relies on” the internet, telephone system or any other part of the U.S. “information infrastructure” would also be “subject to command” by the NCCC under the proposed new law.
FREEDOM IS SLAVERY!
Millard (IA) Public Schools will stop using a children’s book about global warming — but only until the district can obtain copies with a factual error corrected.
A review committee, convened after parents complained, concluded that author Laurie David’s book, “The Down-to-Earth Guide to Global Warming,” contained “a major factual error” in a graphic about rising temperatures and carbon dioxide levels.
However, the district will cease to use a companion video about global warming, narrated by actor Leonardo DiCaprio, he wrote.
The committee found the video “without merit” and recommended that it not be used.
In the video, DiCaprio attributes global warming to mankind’s “destructive addiction” to oil. He says “big corporations” and politicians gained too much money and power “on our addiction,” making them “dangerously resistant to change.”
So how many school district did do this?
After all, it’s just education….
IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH! :)

The Yokes on You

Even though some people say we are living in a “knowledge economy,” we are living in a political atmosphere in which ignorance has more power than ever. Washington politicians who have never run any business are telling all kinds of businesses — from automobile companies and banks to hospitals and insurance companies — how they have to run their businesses. This is the golden age of ignorance in power. (Thomas Sowell)
WASHINGTON — The White House made it clear Tuesday that President Barack Obama will veto Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s proposal to curtail the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s effort to regulate greenhouse gas emissions, in the unlikely event the Alaska Republican’s proposal passes Congress.
Murkowski on Thursday will ask fellow senators to vote on a rarely used disapproval resolution, which signals congressional displeasure with the EPA’s finding that greenhouse gases endanger public health. The proposal would keep the federal agency from regulating greenhouse gas emissions from large polluters such as power plants, a regulatory move already under way in the absence of any comprehensive climate bill by Congress.
The White House went as far as to issue a statement of administration policy on the EPA matter, and said Tuesday that the proposal from the Alaska Republican would “undermine the administration’s efforts to reduce the negative impacts of pollution and the risks associated with environmental catastrophes, like the ongoing BP oil spill.”
“As seen in the Gulf of Mexico, environmental disasters harm families, destroy jobs, and pollute the nation’s air, land and water,” the White House wrote.
The administrator of the EPA, Lisa Jackson, had even harsher words Tuesday at an EPA environmental conference for small business owners. She called the oil spill a “tragic reminder of the hazards of our oil addiction” and accused Murkowski of undermining the agency’s efforts to zero in on large emitters, not small ones.
“It would take away EPA’s ability to take action on climate change,” Jackson said. “And it would ignore and override scientific findings, allowing big oil companies, big refineries and others to continue to pollute without any oversight or consequence. Finally, it will result in exactly zero protections for small businesses.”
The EPA is working on regulations that will limit emissions by large producers of greenhouse gases, as part of its compliance with a 2007 U.S. Supreme Court decision requiring the agency to determine whether greenhouse gases endanger the country’s health and welfare. (Miami Herald)
After all, if the Government controls energy, they control you.
If they control Health Care, they control you.
If they control what you eat (Obesity) they control you.
But don’t worry, the government is benevolent and here to save you from yourself.
They just wanna help.
They have the best of intentions.
Or do they?
That can’t be wrong now can it? :)
We have now reached the truly dangerous point where we cannot even be warned about the lethal, fanatical and suicidal hatred of our Islamic extremist enemies in our midst, because to do so would be politically incorrect here and, in some European countries, would be a violation of laws against inciting hostility to groups.
Think about it.

The Inconvenient Truth Being Gore-d

In 1975 Newsweek proclaimed we were all going to Freeze.
In the 1980s Global Warming Started.
Then Came the P.T. Barnum of the Modern Age, Al Gore.
We were all going to fry.
Only problem, it keeps snowing on the Global Warming conferences, like the miserable failure that was Copenhagen.
So they had changed to the Orwellianly simplistic “Global Climate Change” by then so they could blame anything on it and still get the power they craved.
They still do, Cap & Trade is still on the plate for the Democrats, who are facing a potential electoral Armageddon in November have to get everything passed before then.
So it’s the cramdown on Steroids!
But history may repeat itself first.
Noted scientists at a Chicago climate conference declare that global warming is not only dead, but that the planet faces a big chill for decades to come. What about those frozen wind turbines?
It’s not exactly Copenhagen or Kyoto, but the 700 scientists attending the fourth International Conference on Climate Change, sponsored by the Heartland Institute, had some chilling news of their own in the most liberal sense.
“Global warming is over — at least for a few decades,” Don Easterbrook, emeritus professor of geology at Western Washington University, told the gathering. “However, the bad news is that global cooling is even more harmful to humans than global warming, and a cause for greater concern.”
Easterbrook and 74 other presenters at the conference said what everyone already knows, having shoveled record amounts of global warming off our sidewalks and driveways last winter.
We don’t need computer models to tell us, baby, it’s getting cold outside. Of course, the doomsayers will claim that global warming causes global warming. Right.
“Rather than global warming at a rate of about 1 (degree) Fahrenheit per decade, records of past natural cycles indicate there may be global cooling for the first few decades of the 21st century to about 2030,” Easterbrook said.
He spoke of natural cycles that have been occurring since the discovery of fire and mankind’s first carbon emissions, long before the invention of the wheel and the SUV.
Easterbrook and the other scientists reported on sudden and natural climate fluctuations documented in the geologic record, all before 1945. Two big climate changes occurred in the past 15,000 years, and another 60 smaller changes in the last 5,000 years.
Another presenter, James M. Taylor, an environmental policy expert and a fellow at the Heartland Institute, said that global cooling is happening now.
He pointed to data provided by the Rutgers University Global Snow Lab showing snow records from the last 10 years exceeding the records set in the 1960s and 1970s.
Based on new analysis of ice cores from Greenland to Antarctica, Easterbrook said global temperatures rose and fell from 9 to 15 degrees in a single century or less, a natural phenomenon he called “astonishing.”
We see a bit of irony in an early February report that 11, 115-foot-tall wind turbines installed to provide power to 11 Minnesota towns were not functioning because they couldn’t handle the record cold temperatures of a harsh winter.
Global cooling, it seems, stalled their fight against global warming.

They should be thawed out by now but Dan Geiger, electrical director for Chaska, Minn., said at the time the city had been receiving inquiries as to why its 160-kilowatt $300,000 turbine wasn’t working.
He told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune it had not worked since mid-November. That’s what we call a green energy no-spin zone.
Yes, it’s warmer today than it was a century ago, but it was even warmer when Eric the Red settled on Greenland in 986.
The climate there supported the Viking way of life based upon cattle, hay, grain and herring for about 300 years, predating the Industrial Revolution.
By 1100, a colony of about 3,000 was thriving there. But then came the Little Ice Age, and by 1400, average temperatures had declined by about 2.7 degrees Fahrenheit, and the advancing glaciers doomed the Viking colony in Greenland.
They were doomed by global cooling.
In testimony before Congress on May 6, Britain’s Lord Monckton noted that “neither global mean surface temperature nor its rates of change in recent decades have been exceptional, unusual, inexplicable, or unprecedented.”
He also advised: “There are many urgent priorities that need the attention of Congress, and it is not for me as an invited guest in your country to say what they are. Yet I can say this much: On any view, ‘global warming’ is not one of them.”
We just hope the polar bears don’t catch their death of cold. (IBD)

“Global warming is over—at least for a few decades,” geologist Don Easterbrook, professor emeritus from Western Washington University told the Heartland Institute’s Fourth International Conference on Climate Change on May 19. He warned, however, us not to rejoice. Colder winters kill twice as many people as hot weather while crop production suffers from shorter growing seasons and weather-disrupted harvests.
Dan Miller, climate expert with the Roda Group and ardent believer in Anthropogenic Global Warming, responded to Easterbrook at Fox News: “It’s absurd to talk about global cooling when global heating is with us and accelerating.” But Miller is referring to the current temperature spike from an El Nino in the Pacific Ocean—a short-term climate event already ending, according to Pacific sea surface temperatures. The key question now is where the temperatures will go after the El Nino fades.
Easterbrook offered geological evidence that the earth has had ten big “recent” warmings that dwarf the 0.7 degree temperature increase estimated for the 20th century. Over the past 15,000 years, those temperature shifts drove the earth’s temperatures radically up or down by 9–15 degrees C within a single century. He also noted 60 sharp-but-smaller temperature changes in the past 5,000 years. All of these occurred before 1945, when the post-war Industrial Boom began to ramp up human-emitted CO2 levels.
Easterbrook calls this evidence “astonishing.” Current data seem to support Easterbrook’s prediction of an end to global warming, at least for the next three decades. Since 1998, atmospheric CO2 has continued to increase—but total solar activity, as measured by satellites, has declined sharply after trending strongly, but erratically, upward for 150 years.
Satellite-measured solar activity has also been trending down moderately, which essentially predicts cooling. And the Pacific Decadal Oscillation has shifted into its cool phase, as NASA told us in 2008. Tree rings and coral samples tell us these PDO shifts have predicted moderate cooling for the whole earth, lasting for about 30 years at a stretch. Easterbrook predicts that this PDO phase will last until 2030, with warming from 2030–2060, and then cooling again to 2090.
The PDO, however, doesn’t seem to control whether the planet as a whole will warm or cool over the next century. Easterbrook’s geology says powerful, natural cycles, probably solar-driven, control longer-term climate trends. Ice cores, seashells, and fossil pollen all show a moderate-but-abrupt 1,500-year cycle, which apparently gave us the Little Ice Age and Medieval Warming, the Roman Warming, and 500 similar previous warmings over the past million years.
The prediction: Higher temperatures will not parboil the earth. Global warming will continue, slowly and erratically, perhaps with another 0.5 degree C over several hundred years. The biggest danger will be extended drought in unusual regions, almost certainly including Kenya and California. Such drought ended the Mayan civilization in the 9th century. But it’s as unstoppable as the sun itself. This very real threat should be the focus of modern technology in helping effected areas to adapt.
Eventually, we’ll get another big Ice Age, and our descendents will deride the memory of Al Gore’s “inconvenient truth”—as they shiver watching glaciers approach Chicago.
And the 19th Century solutions proposed by the Democrats will certainly save us all for that too!! :)
But that’s a truly inconvenient truth. :)
